What you receive

A bag of 20 grams or 100 grams of loose blend, to burn on charcoal or on a mesh incense burner. No sticks: you measure out the pinch yourself.

Composition

Copal, lavender flower, rose, white sandalwood, styrax, benzoin, among others.

What is inside, in detail

Copal is the resin of Mesoamerican fumigations, taken from trees of the genus Bursera or Protium: it is pre-Columbian Mexico's equivalent of frankincense, fresher and more lemony.

Benzoin and styrax form the balsamic base, the one that evokes vanilla and caramel. Their names also cross over in a confusing way: benzoin is harvested from trees of the genus Styrax, whereas the resin sold under the name styrax most often comes from a Liquidambar. Two distinct materials, with names that have overlapped for centuries.

Lavender, rose and white sandalwood provide the top: floral for the first two, woody and creamy for the sandalwood.

How to burn it

A pinch on a glowing charcoal, or on a mesh incense burner heated from below, which gives a slower diffusion and avoids the burnt smell caused by direct contact. Start small: a resin blend gives off much more than a stick.

Precautions for use

Burn on a heat-resistant surface, in a ventilated room, and never leave incense unattended. All combustion produces fine particles: air the room after use. Keep out of reach of children and animals. This is not a therapeutic product and we attribute no health effect to it.

Also worth exploring: olibanum resin, burned loose in the same way.
